Mom Is Victim Of Identity Theft

A Summertown mom learned Sunday that her son had stolen, then used her debit card to make unauthorized purchases.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department were notified Sunday that a motorcycle reported as stolen on May 12, had been located by members of the Pulaski Police Department. Pulaski authorities indicated that the person in possession of the motorcycle had given a statement, indicating that he had stolen additional items from the home.

The reported that the man had in his possession a debit card account number and personal identification number that belonged to the same victim. He allegedly also had a check book belonging to the victim’s boyfriend.

When they reported these facts to the victim, she told deputies that the man was her son, but that he did not have permission to use her card. She indicated she had attempted to use the card on Saturday, but was rejected due to “insufficient funds.”

The matter has been turned over for investigation through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
